What is a registrar?
The registrar is an organization accredited by the authorities responsible for allocating and managing domain names. Namely, for each extension:
- an trustee authority, usually government, in matters of policy and legal records
- a registry responsible for managing the base centralized data for this extension, with which only registrars can interface.
The registrar business is primarily the sale and management of domain names to the general public.
Thus the organization of the naming system, the registrar is the latest technology available through the public to register a domain name.
