Contacts are used to hold information about both domain owners and domain contacts. It stores all information to identify the individual or the legal entity, personal data such as his address / email / phone as well any additional data.
A contact is identified by a unique ID with the syntax of two letters (Firstname’s first letter + Lastname’s first letter) + an integer. This ID can’t be customized and is generated in Netim’s system upon the creation of the contact.
Netim manages two type of contacts:
Thoses defined as owner and to be used as domain name owners.
Thoses defined as simple contacts to be used as domain name contacts.
Contacts usage and restrictions
The usage of a contact differs according to his type and restrictions may apply.
The owner contact
It can be used only as domain name owner
It can’t be used as administrative, technical and billing domain contact.
It can be used for one or several domain names.
Some information can’t be updated such as firstname / lastname for individuals ; company name, VAT number or company number for legal entities
For developers, this type is defined with isOwner = 1 in the contact object
The simple contacts
It can’t be used as domain name owner
It can be used as administrative, technical and billing domain contact.
It can be used for one or several domain names.
For developers, this type is defined with isOwner = 0 in the contact object
The reseller ID is also a simple contact and works as such.
Additional information
When used with domain names, some additional information could be requested in order to proceed with the domain registration. In most cases, it is needed for domain name owners but sometimes for administrative contacts too.
In general, additional information is collected by registries in order to identify the domain name owner, check that he fulfills the domain registration rules. It can consists in:
Personal ID number such as ID card number or passport number
