Administrative changes
How to edit the admin, tech and billing contact information
Admin, tech and billing contacts are based on the type of information you can access through a Whois query on your domain. Whois databases provide information on domain names, from creation and expiration dates to contact info. Initially, domain names could only be registered by companies and these three contacts used to refer to company departments. It might be important to note that putting someone’s name in one of these contact categories doesn’t give them rights over the domain name.Important ⚠
- Only admin, tech and billing contact information can be edited through the “Edit contacts” menu. If you would like to learn how to edit the registrant contact information, please go to the following tutorials:
Note 💡
- If you would like to manage multiple users with different permission levels, our user management feature (under development) is made for you.
In order to edit admin, tech and billing contacts, you have to:
- Log in to your Netim Direct account
- Click on “My domains” in the “Domain names” menu
- Click on the relevant domain name
- Click on the “Contact management” section and on “Edit contacts”

Note 💡
- The GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) requires most Whois information to be kept private.
How to update the Registrant contact information
The registrant contact information is distinct from the admin, tech & billing contact information. You’ll have to go through a different process to update the registrant contact information.
The information you can update yourself is non-critical only: post address, email address, telephone number.
To update the registrant contact information:
- Log in to your Netim Direct account
- Click on “My domains” in the “Domain names” menu
- Click on the relevant domain name
- Click on “Contact management” and on “Edit contacts”
- Select “Update” in the registrant contact information box

Note 💡
- If you would like to edit the holder’s name or company name, please order a “Registrant change”. You can go to the following tutorial to learn more: “How to order a Registrant change”.
- If would like to change the holder of a restricted domain, you’ll have to make sure the domain requirements are still met after the change (example: for .no (Norway) domain names, the registrant contact must be Norwegian).
How to order a Registrant change
A registrant change allows the domain name to be transferred to another entity: from one private individual to another, from one company to another, from a company to a private individual, etc.
Depending on the TLD, registrant changes can require specific steps to be completed:
- The change can either be free or require a payment (see the TLD price list)
- The process can be more or less complicated: you might be required to fill out paperwork, among other requirements. Please feel free to contact customer support for more information
- In most cases, the registrant change has to be agreed to by both the former and current holders, via email.
To order a registrant change:
- Log in to your Netim Direct account
- Click on “My domains” in the “Domain names” menu
- Click on the relevant domain name
- Click on “Contact management” and on “Edit contacts”
- Select “Change holder” in the registrant contact information box

Note 💡
- A registrant change only edits the domain holder’s name, it doesn’t entail the transfer of the domain to another account. If you would like to transfer your domain name to another customer account, extra steps need to be taken (contact customer support to learn more).
- If you would like to change the holder of a restricted domain, you’ll have to make sure the domain requirements are still met after the change (example: for .no (Norway) domain names, the registrant contact must be Norwegian).
How to enable or disable Whois privacy
You can enable Whois privacy to hide the personal information accessible through Whois databases.
With the introduction of the GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation), many Whois entries have been deleted or hidden by default. In those cases, the option to disable or enable Whois privacy won’t be as useful.
To enable or disable Whois privacy:
- Log in to your Netim Direct account
- Click on “My domains” in the “Domain names” menu
- Click on the relevant domain name
- In the “Summary” section, click on the “Whois privacy” toggle button to enable or disable the service

Note 💡
- The information that ends up in the Whois databases varies depending on the TLD:
- For some TLDs, Whois data will be kept private by default if the holder is a private individual, but it will be made public if it’s a company (the .fr works that way, for instance)
- For others, Netim will replace the registrant contact information to protect the privacy of its customer (this option is only available if the Registry in charge of the TLD allows this practice)
How to enable or disable auto-renewal
At Netim, the renewal of your services is generally done manually, with email reminders sent at different stages (30 days, 15 days, 7 days before, and on the due date) to guide you through the renewal process. However, to simplify this management, you can enable automatic renewal, which ensures your services are renewed without you having to worry about it.
There are several ways to enable auto-renewal. You can choose to apply auto-renewal to all your services or only to specific types of services (domain names, hosting, SSL certificates, or brand protection). You also have the option to enable it for specific services, either on a case-by-case basis or in batches of multiple services at once.
Note 💡
How to enable or disable Registrar lock (Theft protection)
Registrar lock has been introduced by Registries for a large number of TLDs. It aims at protecting your domain against unauthorized transfer requests.
If you would like to transfer your domain name to another Registrar, you have to disable the Registrar lock first.
Similarly, if you would like to transfer a domain to Netim, you have to disable the Registrar lock through your current Registrar first.
To enable or disable the Registrar lock:
- Log in to your Netim Direct account
- Click on “My domains” in the “Domain names” menu
- Click on the relevant domain name
- In the “Summary” section, click on the “Registrar Lock” toggle button to enable or disable the service

Note 💡
- This feature is not available for all TLDs. If the option isn’t available in Netim Direct for a given domain name, you can simply ignore this step.
How to obtain the domain name authorisation code
The authorisation code is required to transfer your domain to another Registrar. You’ll also need it if you plan on transferring your domain name to Netim.
It’s important to note that although this procedure is the most commonly used, some Registries may still have specific processes to obtain authorisation codes. If you have no option to request the code for a given domain through your account, contact your future Registrar and find out about the transfer procedure.
A few examples:
- The Registry managing the .eu (Europe) provides a code with a limited-time validity. Once the deadline has passed, the code is no longer valid and you’ll have to request another one to complete the transfer process.
- Authorisation codes for .be domains may have a specific syntax
To receive the auth code:
- Log in to your Netim Direct account
- Click on “My domains” in the “Domain names” section of the left menu
- Click on the relevant domain name
- In the “Summary” section, click on the “Get the auth code” button

Note 💡
- If you requested multiple authorisation codes for a single domain name, keep in mind that the only valid code if the one you received last
- Authorisation codes can be referred to as: auth id, EPP code, transfer code, transfer key, UDAI, authorisation key, domain password, etc.
