How to migrate my email address?

An email address migration is the copying of emails and folders from the source IMAP account to a destination IMAP account using the ImapSync feature.

Once the copy is complete, all the emails and folders on your original email address will also be present on the destination email address.

How to migrate an email address?

The migration of an email address is reserved exclusively for our customers, i.e. all those who have a hosting account with Netim. If you already have a custom domain email address and wish to switch your registrar to Netim, or if your hosting plan at Netim has changed, here are the steps to follow:

Step 1: Order your hosting plan

➡️ Step 1.1: If your hosting is already managed by Netim:
  1. Log in to your Netim Direct client area
  2. From the “My hostings” menu, select the hosting you wish to upgrade
  3. Click on the “Upgrade your offer” button
➡️ Step 1.2: If your hosting is not managed by Netim:
  1. Visit the Netim website at the following link: Plan Comparison Chart
  2. Choose the plan that best suits your needs
  3. During the order process, ensure you do not transfer the domain name

Step 2: Add a TXT record to your zone file

⚠️ If the domain name associated with the email address you want to migrate is already managed by Netim, you can skip this step ⚠️

  1. Access your current DNS zone file management via your registrar or DNS provider
  2. Add the TXT record provided by Netim to verify your domain
  3. Save your changes

Step 3: Create your email addresses and use the migration tool

  1. Log in to your Netim Direct customer account
  2. Create your email addresses from the “My emails” menu. Set up forwarding if needed
  3. Use our email address migration tool to transfer your old mailbox to the new one. Go to the step : “How to use Netim’s email address migration tool?”

Step 4: Finalise configuration and transfer

➡️ Step 4.1: If the source domain is not managed by Netim:
  1. Update your domain’s DNS servers to point to Netim’s servers
  2. Configure your email clients (Outlook, Thunderbird, etc…) using Netim’s settings. Check out our tutorial “Set up your email client”
  3. Once everything is set up and working, you can transfer your domain name. To do this, visit the following page: Domain Name Transfer and follow the instructions
➡️ Step 4.2: If the domain is already managed by Netim:
  1. Configure your email clients (Outlook, Thunderbird, etc…) using Netim’s settings. Check out our tutorial “Set up your email client”
  2. Log in to your Netim Direct customer account
  3. From the “My emails” menu, select the destination email address to which you want to migrate
  4. On the right-hand side of your screen, in the Configuration section, click on the “Start the auto-configuration of my domain” button

How to use Netim’s email address migration tool?

To initiate your migration request, you need to use our email address migration tool. Here’s how to proceed:

  1. Go to our dedicated page “Email address migration tool”
  2. Fill in the login details for your old account and your new account in the “Source” and “Destination” sections. The required login information includes:
    • The IMAP server of your source email provider source
      • From Spamora: mail.spamora.net
      • From Lite, Start, Web+, Mail+ or Premium offer: mail1.netim.hosting
    • The source email address (to be transferred)
    • The password for your source email address
    • The email address hosted by Netim (destination)
    • The password for your email address hosted by Netim
  3. Next, provide the email address where you want to receive the migration completion report
  4. Complete the “I’m not a robot” verification, then click on the “Start migration” button
How to migrate my email address ?

The different phases of email address migration

After clicking “Start Migration,” you will be directed to a page displaying a summary of your request, and a link to track the migration progress. Here are the phases you might encounter during the migration of your email address:

This is the first status you will encounter during the migration. Once your request is no longer pending, it will be processed directly by our automated systems.

As soon as the request is being processed by our robots, you will see the message below.

Error

If an error occurs during migration, you will be alerted by email and you will be able to restart your request once the problem has been corrected by clicking on the “Restart migration request” button.

If applicable, the migration will resume from where it left off.

Once your migration is complete, you will see the message below. Log in to your new address, which will have retrieved all the emails and folders from your old address.
